Why we all should be small farmers!

After this year, probably the positive thing about COVID is that people started to wake to a topic I have preached for years...

WE ALL NEED TO STOP TRUSTING THE SUPPLY CHAIN FOR OUR FOOD.

Food security really does fall in the hands of a supply chain that is both feeble and now overly regulated. Basically, we must ask ourselves what guarantees our food to be on grocery stores shelves? And why do we trust the supply chain so much?

Did you know last century most Americans relied on what they grew and/or bartered with local neighbors? Why is this such a foreign concept when just a few generations before us were self-sufficient.

Now this may mean we can depend on small local farmers or grow your own. However, I would caution you that if we all went to the local farm for our foods and boycotted corporate grocers it would be overwhelming for a small farmer to grow that much food for the local economy. Thus, I HIGHLY suggest you taking back your freedoms and growing at your home.

Really, my friends, it doesn't take much land to grow for an average family. I have seen families all over growing on less than a 1/4 of an acre. And if you live in an apartment there are also ways you can still grow your own food such as a container garden on your balcony or start a local garden club at a nearby park or empty lot. Also, many churches are using their lawns for raised beds that you rent for the year. Basically, there is always a way to do what you really want with just a bit of creativity.

My greatest concern is that the turn of the 20th century, 95% of Americans grew their own food and were self-reliant. Now in 2020, less than 5% truly are self-reliant and all of our farmland turned into corporate giants who have taken over our food supply. Let's get back to our roots and take care of ourselves. I want every American loving the soil and/or raising their own livestock.

One huge thing that I preach about is if you want to eat meat (I am a high raw vegan), please learn to raise your own animals. The meat industry is beyond cruel and these animals are just a commodity. Eating meat is actually very okay in the bible but we have a stewardship over these animals. The only way to treat them fairly while they provide nutrition for us is to simply have enough animals for every family that intends to eat meat. If left to corporate entities then cruelty will always persist because they cannot really care for 100s to 1000s of animals at one time and that was never meant to be the situation for these poor animals. Thus, the only humane way to eat meat or dairy is to raise them yourselves. I am pretty dogmatic on this one :)

In conclusion, I have a challenge for you...see what you can do to grow your own food or raise meat. There are plenty of avenues and I believe a national boycott of the current supply chain and increased production at individuals homes is needed more than ever. Thus, please let's create a food revolution back to the land!
